About 14 years ago, Nick Wainwright introduced me to the work of Zbigniew Karkowski by playing "ElectroStatics" for me.
I never met Karkowski, worked with him or had any contact with the man, however his creative output has become crucially
important to me ever since that time. for me, Karkowski epitomizes the idea of sound art and noise as an attitude.
He sought to break down barriers of perception through what he described as a ritualistic and spiritual practice of sound. what flows out of the speakers is a vibration that is transformative, enables organic growth and becomes a condition of the creator, a means to self-actualization and the driving force behind evolution. he touched many lives and intuitively pushed through a multitude of barriers as a recording artist, composer, global citizen and open-minded collaborator.
i believe that his legacy is one of tireless exploration of fundamental human energies, challenging that which is perceived as law
and the pursuit of a higher consciousness by all means necessary. soak up as much of his work as you can - it may just free you
from the oppressive and prescriptive standards laid out by many of today's spin doctors of noise.
